How do I become a Graduate Master Builder (GMB)?
Curriculum and Other Requirements
Eligibility Requirements:
- Possess active CGB or CGR designation
- Have 5 years building industry experience
OR
- Successful completion of 3 CGA, CGB or CGR courses
- Have 10 years building industry experience
Design, Estimating & Job Cost
Course Requirements (complete 5 out of 6 approved courses listed below):
Associated Fees
- Application Fees (Waived for holders of CGA, CGB or CGR designation): $50.00 members $100.00 non-members
- Course Fees determined by the HBA
- National Fees: $175.00 members $225.00 non-members
- Graduation Fees: $145.00 members $245.00 non-members
Continuing Education Requirements
Complete 12 hours of CE every 3 years. A minimum of 6 hours should be a University of Housing course or participation in approved NAHB-related activities. Another 6 hours (maximum) is additional building-industry related education. Designees are required to submit proof of attendance for each event or activity (copy of registration confirmation, show badge, course certificate, etc.) with their CE form. If a building designation was achieved a copy of the certificate should be attached.
NAHB Education and Activities (minimum 6 required hours). Approved education and activities listed below:
- Complete an NAHB University of Housing course (in regular classroom format)
- Teach an NAHB University of Housing course
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for an NAHB University of Housing course
- Be an active member in a Builder or Remodeler 20 Club
AND
Building Industry-related Education (maximum 6 hours). Approved education and activities listed below:
- Attend a national, regional or state trade show.
- Attend an educational symposium or event, NAHB board meeting or chair an NAHB national committee.
- Earn a building industry related professional designation.
- Complete a business management-related or building industry related course or seminar conducted by a college, university or technical school.
- Manufacturer Product Training - These include sponsored education on business or installation techniques, facility tours, fabrication process demonstrations or product demonstrations.
