How do I become a Certified Graduate Builder (CGB)?
Curriculum and Other Requirements
• Two years of building industry experience by graduation
• Builder Assessment Review (BAR)* or nine courses for existing candidates
• Builder Assessment Review (BAR): Beginning in 2003, new candidates are required to take the BAR assessment to determine what courses they must complete to earn the CGB designation. Existing candidates who do not take the BAR must complete nine courses to obtain the designation. The results of the BAR list the number of courses required (0-2) from the four key areas of the designation curriculum:
Building Technology
Business Finance
Project Management
Sales & Marketing

- BAR Fee (includes program application fee): $195.00
- Course fees determined by the HBA
- National Fees: $185.00 members $235.00 non-members
- Graduation Fees: $145.00 members $245.00 non-members
- Annual Renewal Fees: $50.00 members $75.00 non-members
Continuing Education Requirements
Complete 12 hours of continuing education every three years. At least six hours must be from an NAHB University of Housing course.
